Sad but true -- Ableton 8 is not quite ready for prime time. I am merely one of many people having technical issues at this point in time. However, when these bugs are fixed, it will be well worth the wait, as the new features are incredibly cool.
Most frustrating of all the problems that I am personally experiencing is the absurd latency when recording audio. I'm using a MOTU 828mk3 audio interface, which has worked beautifully with all other software I've tried it with, including Ableton 7. No amount of tweaking the audio settings will reduce the latency to a manageable amount.
Also, I haven't personally performed a live set with the new version, but I have heard about quite a few people experiencing unpredictable crashes and unusual audio glitching that doesn't necessarily correlate with CPU load.
But damn, in spite of all the problems, I can't help but recommend Ableton 8. Features, features, features! These guys really deserve our support, and one can always stick to 7.0.15 in the meantime.
